A closer look at The Addams Family The Musical Comedy

The Addams Family Musical

The Addams Family musical was first previewed on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March of 2010 after it had been tried out in Chicago the year before.

The original production had a budget of about $15m and won a number of awards including: the Drama Desk Award and the Broadway.com Audience award for Favourite New Broadway Musical.

Nathan Lane, the renowned veteran of the stage and screen, played the role of Gomez Addams.

Mid way through 2011 the show had grossed more than $62m and it reached its 500th performance on June 16, 2011.

After more than a year the original production closed on Broadway on December 31, 2011.

The show was brought to the UK in 2016 and opened at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre on April 20, 2017.

The famous names in the cast included: Samantha Womack as Morticia; Les Dennis as Fester; and Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday.

The second UK tour of the show started at the end of 2021 and had been due to start earlier but had to be postponed because of the Covid pandemic.

The run went to the north west cities of Liverpool and Manchester. The Liverpool Echo reviewed the show on March 9, 2022 and wrote: “The script is dripping with jokes which are served thick and fast, with gross out comedy to keep the kids happy, and racy innuendos to entertain the adults. The songs are catchy, toe-tappingly so, with ‘When You’re An Addams’ proving to be the particular earworm of the evening.”

Don’t miss this amazing show, book your tickets and enjoy a wonderful evening (or afternoon) of entertainment.
