Set Construction

We build all our own sets and they are designed by members of the society. Sets are constructed usually of 18 foot flats made of wood and canvas that are then tied together and if require are battened together to ensure the safety of our actors.

Once a play is finished on the Saturday, normally the Sunday would be get-out and get-in day. This means we dismantle the old set, take it out of the building and bring the new set in. If it is one of our visiting societies, sets can be big and complicated and can be hired in. It’s is not unusual for a hired set to be assembled on the Sunday of the get-in, and dismantled as soon as the show has finished as it will be off to it’s next venue that morning! It’s not unusual for society members to still be loading sets onto a van at 2am!

We also have a wide selection of back cloths that can be used for various shows, usually panto. Any we don’t have are painted by our very talented scenic artist.
