It’s 1977, and the biggest manhunt in British history is underway.

This gripping true-crime drama takes you into the pressure-cooker environment of Millgarth Police Station – and the incident room in Leeds where officers worked around the clock to catch the Yorkshire Ripper.

The Incident Room is not about the Ripper himself. It throws a spotlight on those who tried to catch him – and on the ego, institutional sexism and incompetence that meant they failed to stop his five-year reign of terror and the deaths of 13 women.

The story

The hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper is consuming Millgarth Police Station in Leeds. With the eyes of the nation watching, Sergeant Megan Winterburn and her team struggle to manage a mountain of paperwork, thousands of tip-offs, and the immense pressure of an investigation that seems to be slipping through their fingers.

This drama goes behind the headlines to reveal the human cost of a flawed investigation in the pre-digital age. It is a haunting exploration of the detectives who lived and breathed the case, battling institutional bias and their own exhaustion in a desperate bid to catch a killer before he strikes again.

Tense, thought-provoking and sharply written, but with moments of unexpected humour and real heart. With visually captivating staging and effects and an experienced, talented cast, this is set to be a powerful, moving drama.
