Youth Theatre future shows and workshops

Our next production will be ‘Songs for Southport’, a reflective mix of musical favourites from popular shows.  This replaces the planned Sweeney Todd performances – as the show reached its final rehearsal stages, the horrific attack at the Taylor Swift party happened, resulting in the tragic loss of three young girls, Alice, Bebe and Elsie, who had been doing what they loved, dancing and singing.

Meeting the night after the tragedy, the cast of the show made it very clear that they felt that performing ‘Sweeney Todd’ at this time would be disrespectful and inappropriate. Yet there was a real sense among the group that they wanted to honour the memory of the girls and offer some light in the darkness. That evening, they came up with the idea of a concert of songs that they felt would encapsulate the town’s feelings but that would also reflect the determination of the community to find a way out of that darkness.

The programme of songs ranges across contemporary musicals such as ‘Groundhog Day’ and ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’ to the more classic ‘West Side Story’.  To be performed 22-24 August 2024.

Following on from the August production, there will be a play in March 2025 which will be ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

As well as stage productions, we also run regular performance-based workshops, sometimes with professional actors, always with experienced workshop facilitators.
