More Than Just a Shop

While the shop is the heart of the show, it’s the people of Doncaster that make it a home. Recreating the mid-1970s look has been a labour of love for our props team, Dave and Wendy Cox, who have sourced everything from vintage beer bottles to period-accurate shop stock. This attention to detail creates a world that our actors can truly inhabit at the Little Theatre Southport.

Ronnie Orr as Cyril
Ronnie is no stranger to “treading the boards” for the SDC, with his credits now reaching into double figures. You might remember him from Noises Off, The Full Monty, or most recently, The Liver Birds. Ronnie says rehearsals have been a “pleasure” and full of fun. He is thoroughly looking forward to bringing the character of Cyril to life for our audience!

Dave Cox as Bert, Milk Woman’s Fella & Burglar
Dave is a true veteran, first appearing on our stage back in 1992 in Guys and Dolls. Since then, he has played iconic leading men like Don Lockwood in Singin’ in the Rain and Curly in Oklahoma!. In this production, Dave is showing off his versatility by playing multiple roles, including Bert and a very suspicious burglar! When he isn’t on stage or sourcing props, he’s at home with Wendy and their cat, Jake.
From the crack of dawn deliveries to the suspicious characters lurking about after dark, this lot certainly keeps Arkwright on his toes! It’s been a riot putting these scenes together, and we can’t wait for you to take your place in the stalls and watch the neighbourhood chaos unfold.
