A Community Effort

Putting on a show at the Little Theatre Southport is always a massive team effort, but Open All Hours has been particularly special. Our “Green Team” has even been working behind the scenes to make the production as environmentally sustainable as possible. This dedication to the craft—and the planet—is what makes our theatre community so vibrant. As we move into the heart of the show, we meet some characters who are finding themselves in very “different” roles than usual!

June Beswick as Mrs Blewitt
If you’re a regular at our theatre, you might recognise June Beswick from her many musical theatre roles—most notably as Bloody Mary in South Pacific. Recently, she’s been transitioning into plays, with her last role being Dorothy Medway in House Guest. June is having a wonderful time playing Mrs Blewitt, a character she describes as “totally different” from anything she’s ever played before. We think you’ll love her take on this local shop regular!

Wendy Cox as Mavis & Bottle Woman
Wendy is another performer who made the leap from musicals to plays when she joined the SDC in 2020. After hitting a high point as Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act, she has since appeared in Deathtrap and Lilies on the Land. Wendy is taking on the dual roles of Mavis and the Bottle Woman in this production. She’s been a fantastic addition to the team, and she’s looking forward to sharing the stage with such a talented group of individuals.
Whether they’re searching for a bargain or just the latest bit of street gossip, our shop wouldn’t be the same without its regulars. We can’t wait for you to settle into your seat and eavesdrop on the latest Doncaster drama for yourself!
