“Bedroom Farce”: Talk-Up & Auditions This June!

We’re thrilled to announce that Alan Ayckbourn’s classic comedy, “Bedroom Farce,” will kick off our 2025-2026 season! Directed by Steve Pritchard, this hilarious play was a massive hit when we last staged it in 2002 (directed by Robin Hirsch), and we’re sure it will be again.

What’s it all about?

“Bedroom Farce” is a brilliant comedy that dives into the chaotic lives of four married couples, each dysfunctional in their own uniquely funny way. The entire action unfolds over one night, all within three bedrooms, as Malcolm and Kate host a housewarming party that goes spectacularly awry.

Meet the Characters:

  • Ernest and Delia: (Playing ages 60+) Trevor’s parents, they’re a long-married couple who have settled into a comfortable, if somewhat predictable, routine. Delia is calm, motherly, and clearly runs the show, while Ernest is a long-suffering character with a grumpy streak.
  • Trevor and Susannah: (Playing ages 25-35) Their marriage is teetering on the brink. Communication has completely broken down, and their arguments have escalated into all-out war. Trevor is selfish, completely oblivious to others’ feelings, and lacks common sense. Susannah, on the other hand, is insecure and a little unhinged.
  • Nick and Jan: (Playing ages 25-40) This upwardly mobile couple finds their evening disrupted by Nick’s crippling bad back, leaving him confined to bed in agony for the entire play. Jan, who happens to be Trevor’s ex-fiancée, is all business and not exactly the most sympathetic nurse.
  • Malcolm and Kate: (Playing ages 20-30) They’re “love’s young dream,” constantly playing silly practical jokes on each other. Their “love nest” is progressing slowly, largely because Malcolm is truly terrible at DIY. Thankfully, competent peacemaker Kate doesn’t seem to mind!

Get Involved!

I was lucky enough to be in the cast back in 2002 and can personally attest to how much fun everyone involved had! Don’t worry if you have holidays booked during the rehearsal period; we can often work around these.

If you’re interested in being part of this fantastic production, come along to the below:
Talk-up: Friday 20th June at 8 pm in the Theatre Clubroom to hear more.
Auditions: Tuesday 24th June from 7:30 pm.

You can also pick up a copy of the play from any PSCC member before the talk-up. I’m really looking forward to seeing you there!
