Props Department
What is a prop?
A prop is an item that can be moved and seen in any type of play, whether it be the famous skull in Hamlet or the handbag that prompts Lady Bracknell to famously state ‘A Handbag’, or even the cosy armchair that Miss Marple will sit and reveal the killer in A Murder is Announced…and these items don’t just appear on stage, a lot of work goes into getting them in the right place at the right moment.
Our role is…
The role of the props team is responsible for sourcing props, whether from our jam-packed store or an external source (Ebay seems quite popular) and finding ways to make any prop that needs making for a particular production. We would then provide rehearsal props for the director and cast to use before transferring all our sourced props to the stage ready for use.
As well as providing props for the cast to carry on, the props team will occasionally move props on and off stage as well as pre-set the stage ready for curtain up!
